Private robotics & engineering · Grades K–8

For students who want to go further.

Some students finish a robotics class and move on. Others take the project home, keep changing it, and want to build something harder. Private engineering is for them: a clear project path, one-on-one, at the pace your family chooses.

Built around the student.

Sessions follow the student’s interests, skill level, and projects. The goal is not homework help. It is steady engineering growth.

  • Robotics
  • Electronics
  • Programming
  • CAD
  • 3D printing
  • Mechanisms
  • Sensors
  • Microcontrollers
  • Troubleshooting
  • Original inventions

A clear path, at your pace.

Every student follows the same structured project path. Your plan sets the pace: more sessions a month means moving through each phase, and on to the next, sooner.

Trial Engineering Lesson

$75 · 60 minutes · online, at home, or at a library near you

The trial is a real engineering session, not a sales call. Bring a project, an idea, or a problem, and we’ll work on it together.

  1. Show us what you’re working on.
  2. Tell us what you want it to do.
  3. Pick one realistic goal for the session.
  4. Build, test, troubleshoot, or design.
  5. Leave with visible progress and a clear next step.

Afterward, we’ll recommend a phase and a plan if it makes sense. There’s no obligation to continue. One trial per family.

What to bring

  • A project the student already built
  • A robot that isn’t working right
  • A CAD idea or a part that needs redesign
  • A programming problem
  • Or just an idea they want to explore

Who teaches

Taught by Engels Ady

Hands-on engineering educator since 2014. Engels has designed and taught K–8 robotics programs, founded a school robotics club, and coached student teams from regional events to the VEX Robotics World Championship.

  • STEM educator since 2014
  • VEX World Championship coach
  • K–8 program designer
  • Mathematics degree

Students keep their projects so learning doesn’t stop when the session does. They can keep programming, modifying, and showing what they built long after we log off.

Questions

How long does each phase take?

It depends on how often you meet. Junior Builders is about 8 sessions, Robotics Builders about 12, and Engineering Lab about 16. At 4 sessions a month, that’s roughly 2 months, 3 months and 4 months. Students who finish a phase move straight on to the next one.

Are materials included?

Yes. Every plan includes the parts and printed components for each project, and the student keeps everything they build. For online plans, we ship the materials to your home.

How do online sessions work?

The student works at their own desk or workbench with a camera pointed at the build when practical. We ship the parts, electronics, and printed components needed for each project, and guide assembly, testing, programming, and troubleshooting live.

Where do you offer in-person sessions?

At your home or at a public library near you, within 50 miles of Boston. For library sessions we reserve a study room when one is available. If you live farther away, we recommend our online plans: students work at home with project materials shipped to them, and get the same curriculum and one-on-one instruction.

What ages do you work with?

Kindergarten through Grade 8. Younger students start with mechanisms and motion; older students move into microcontrollers, Tinkercad, and Onshape. Grade is a guide, not a rule: the trial is where we find the right starting point.

Can we change or cancel a plan?

Yes. You can move between plans or cancel before your next billing date. See our policies for rescheduling and refunds.
